Privacy Policy

Asterie: Cozy Night Journal ("Asterie", "we", "us") is made by PT Kreasi Kerlip Mentari, a company registered in Indonesia. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We tried to keep it short.

The short version

• Your journal is yours. We store it so you can use the app, and we don't read it, sell it, or use it for ads.
• We don't keep your name or email address.
• No ads, and no tracking across other apps or websites. We do collect basic app-usage data, never your journal, and you can turn it off in Settings.
• You can delete your account and everything in it at any time.

What we collect

Account ID. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we keep only the unique account ID Apple or Google gives us, so we know which journal is yours. We don't store your name or email address.

Your journal. Each night's entry: the text you write, its date, and your time zone. If you have Asterie Plus, the photos you add too. Entries are stored on your phone and on our servers so they stay safe and available.

Sign-in sessions. A secure token that keeps you signed in. We store it in a scrambled (hashed) form.

Subscription status. If you subscribe to Asterie Plus, Apple handles the payment and we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription or trial is active.

Reminder settings. If you turn on bedtime reminders, your chosen time is used to schedule them. Reminders are optional and you can turn them off in the app or in your iPhone settings.

App usage. To understand how Asterie is used and make it better, we collect product-usage events, such as when a night is kept, when reminders are set, which Home cards are shown or tapped, sign-in and sign-out, and steps in the Asterie Plus subscription screens. These events are linked to your account through an internal user ID, and they include your device's IP address and the rough location (country and city) that comes from it. They never include your journal text, your photos, or the dates of your nights, and we don't record your screen. You can turn this off at any time in Settings.

We don't use advertising tools, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.

How we use it

We use your information only to:

• sign you in and keep your account secure,
• store and sync your entries and photos,
• unlock Asterie Plus features when you subscribe,
• send the reminders you asked for,
• understand which features are used so we can improve the app, and
• reply when you contact us.

We don't sell your data, share it for advertising, or use your entries to train AI models.

Who else handles your data

We use a few trusted services to run Asterie:

• Cloudflare, which hosts our servers, database, and photo storage.
• Apple, for Sign in with Apple, in-app purchases, and notifications.
• Google, for Sign in with Google, if you choose it.
• RevenueCat, which manages Asterie Plus subscriptions. It receives an app user ID and your purchase details from Apple, not your journal.
• PostHog, which stores the app-usage events described above (including IP addresses), on servers in the United States.

They process data only to provide these services to us. Our database (Cloudflare) and app-usage data (PostHog) are hosted in the United States, so your data is stored outside Indonesia. For people in the EU, UK, and Switzerland, PostHog protects these transfers under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (and its UK and Swiss versions) and the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

We may disclose information if the law requires it, for example a valid order from an Indonesian authority.

How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as you have an account.

When you delete your account, we immediately delete your account ID, sign-in sessions, entries, and photos from our live systems, delete your app-usage data from PostHog, and revoke the app's access to your Apple sign-in. Our hosting provider keeps automatic backups of the database for up to 30 days, after which deleted data is gone for good. Short technical logs, which never contain your journal, are kept for up to 7 days.

When you delete a single entry, its text and photo are deleted. A blank record of that night's date, time zone, and when it was created stays until you delete your account.

Your choices and rights

You can:

• view and edit your entries in the app at any time,
• delete individual entries or photos,
• turn off app-usage data in Settings,
• delete your whole account from the app's settings, and
• email us at hello@asterie.app to ask what data we hold about you, to correct it, or to get a copy of your data.

If your Asterie Plus subscription ends, your existing entries and photos stay stored and readable.

These rights are also protected under Indonesia's Personal Data Protection Law (UU No. 27 Tahun 2022) and similar laws where you live.

Why we're allowed to use your data

We use your account, journal, and subscription data because we need them to provide Asterie to you. We send reminders because you asked for them. We collect app-usage data because we have a legitimate interest in understanding and improving Asterie, and you can opt out at any time in Settings. If you're in the EU or UK, you also have the right to object to this, and turning it off in Settings stops it straight away.

Security

Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with access limited to what's needed to run the service. On your phone, photos are kept in the app's private storage. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care to protect your journal.

Children

Asterie is for people aged 13 and up. If you're under 18, please use Asterie only with a parent's or guardian's permission. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has given us data, email us and we'll delete it.

This website

asterie.app is a simple static site. It uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits, which doesn't use cookies or store your IP address. The site has no other third-party scripts.

Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll tell you in the app or on this page before the change takes effect.
